Top Ten Tuesday & Tune In Tuesday: Songs that Reminds Me of Books

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 6 Comments

This weekly meme is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
This week was scheduled to be Top Ten Authors I'd Like To See On A Reality Show but it was kind of hard so they decided to make it a freebie week. And I, honestly am at a lost for a topic when I saw Tune In Tuesday which is:

A weekly feature hosted by GReads that showcases music.
This is my first Tune in Tuesday post. Wow! Why did I never found this weekly meme any sooner? Aside from being a bookworm I’m a big music lover at heart. They're topic is random playlist wherein you can share songs from your playlist on shuffle mode or share any song you'd like to share.

With that, I decided to combine the two. This list will be ten songs that reminds me of books I have read.

Here goes:

1. Song: Homeless, Dia Frampton
Book: Anna and the French Kiss, Stephanie Perkins

"Everywhere we go is home baby home, home is you're with me."

2. Song: Brighter at Night, Ash Koley
Book: Along for the Ride, Sarah Dessen

"What do we do when the sun comes down? When all that we do, we do when it's brighter at night."

3. Song: I Got You, Leona Lewis
   Book: Catching Jordan, Miranda Keneally

"A place to crash. I got you. No need to ask, I got you."

4. Song: Stolen, Dashboard Confessional
Book: The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jenny Han

"You have stolen my heart"

5. Song: Skip to the Good Part, He Is We
Book: The Truth about Forever, Sarah Dessen

"I never thought I'd find the hands to hold my heart. Whattya know? Let's skip to the good part. "
"I do and a kiss and forever starts"

6. Song: Thank You, Led Zeppelin
   Book: Just Listen, Sarah Dessen

"Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one."

*This song was mentioned a lot of times on the book.

7. Song: Landslide, Dixie Chicks
Book: It’s Not Summer Without You, Jenny Han

"Well I've been afraid of changin' 'cause I built my life around you."

8. Song: Arms, Christina Perri
   Book: This Lullaby, Sarah Dessen

"I never thought that you would be the one to hold my heart. But you came around and you knocked me off the ground from the start."

9. Song: Where are you now?, Honor Society
Book, Where She Went, Gayle Forman

"Where are you now? 'Cause I'm thinking of you."

10. Song: Glad You Came, The Wanted
     Book: Effortless, S.C. Stephens

"My universe will never be the same. I'm glad you came."

*A facebook page of Kellan Kyle (one of the main character from the book) posted this with this note" "Griffin thinks this song is really dirty. You should see the look on Kiera's face when he sings it. Ahhh, so funny." (And I'm never listening to this song the same way again. Haha.)

Spotlight on. Artist of the Month: He Is We

Friday, May 11, 2012 0 Comments

The He Is We Story
He Is We is a band from Tacoma, Washington comprising of Rachel Taylor and Trevor Kelly. The two met while working together at Ted Brown Music. And as their website says… “Aside from the Tacoma aroma (local joke!), there was something else in the air. Trevor thinks it was destiny… Rachel still thinks it was the aroma.”
After some time, they started jamming together and that’s how He Is We started; “…the idea that someone who you pass by everyday can influence the rest of your life… and you would never know. It’s the thought and power one person can have over their surroundings.” -www.heiswemusic.com/story

The Music
He Is We has been making a lot of music before their album came out. Songs like Too Beautiful and I Wouldn’t Mind which are from their old demos. Their first album came out in 2010 titled My Forever which included the songs All About Us and Happily Ever After. Last year, they also released an EP titled Skip to the Good Part which included a song of the same title.

My Story
I have been listening to the band He Is We since last year. And guess what? Anna and the French Kiss (it's a YA book, for those who don't know) actually was the reason I found out about them. Here’s the story: There was a moment I became Anna-obsessed. One day I was browsing through the web looking for some Anna and the French Kiss pictures such as fan-made covers, etc. Then I saw a picture with a playlist for the book. One of the songs in that playlist is All about us which is by He Is We. I totally loved the song. It was great! I searched the video, which by the way, is also great. That’s when I started looking for other He Is We songs, downloading their albums and EP. And now, I’m a fan. I just love, love, love their songs. I absolutely love the lyrics plus the tunes are also catchy.

All About Us ft. Owl City

Happily Ever After

If you want to learn more about the band visit their website: http://www.heiswemusic.com/.
You can also check out their youtube page at: http://www.youtube.com/user/heisweTV
Or, go to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/heiswe.official

P.S.
Do you know any great band which is not on the mainstream? Any artist you want to suggest?
Please post a comment. Thanks!

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Quotes from Books

Tuesday, May 08, 2012 18 Comments

This weekly meme is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Favorite Quotes from Books.

Wow! This really is a hard one. I tend to write the quotes I love from books I’m reading. (And sometimes… there are many of them. I actually have a quote book.) Plus, I also make bookmarks for quotes I like. (Two of them posted below. The drawings are from deviant art.)  So, I’ll just write the ten (No, actually it’s fifteen. Haha.) quotes that came to mind while doing this.

1. “If you stay, I'll do whatever you want. I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I'll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it'd be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I'd do it. I can lose you like that if I don't lose you today. I'll let you go. If you stay.”
-- Gayle Forman, If I Stay

2. “It's my turn to see you through,' she whispers, coming back to me and wrapping me in her blanket as I lose my shit all over again. She holds me until I recover my Y chromosome.”
-- Gayle Forman, Where She Went

3. “Some things don't last forever, but some things do. Like a good song, or a good book, or a good memory you can take out and unfold in your darkest times, pressing down on the corners and peering in close, hoping you still recognize the person you see there.”
--
Sarah Dessen, This Lullaby

4. “Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.”
--
Sarah Dessen, Just Listen

5. “For the two of us, home isn't a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.”
-- Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss

6. “Will you please tell me you love me? I’m dying here.”
-- Stephanie Perkins, Anna and the French Kiss

7. “It's a lot easier to be lost than found. It's the reason we're always searching and rarely discovered--so many locks not enough keys.”
-- Sarah Dessen, Lock and Key

8. “Look, the point is there's no way to be a hundred percent sure about anyone or anything. So you're left with a choice. Either hope for the best or just expect the worst.”
--
Sarah Dessen, Lock and Key

9. “Life is full of screwups. You're supposed to fail sometimes. It's a required part of the human existence.”
--
Sarah Dessen, Along for the Ride

10. “I know you aren't perfect. But it's a person's imperfections that make them perfect for someone else.”
-- Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

11. “Perfect is overrated. Perfect is boring." I smile. "You don't think I'm perfect?" "No. You're delightfully screwy, and I wouldn't have you any other way.”
-- Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

12. “When unrequited love is the most expensive thing on the menu, sometimes you settle for the daily special.”
-- Miranda Kenneally, Catching Jordan

13. “I didn't know crushing on a guy would require me to up my calorie intake.”
 -- Miranda Kenneally, Catching Jordan

14. “Love hurts worse than getting slammed by a 250-pound linebacker.”
-- Miranda Kenneally, Catching Jordan

15. “No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same.”
--
Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I'd Like To See Made Into A Movie

Wednesday, May 02, 2012 2 Comments
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Every Tuesday the guys at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list which lets us, bloggers, post our own list for the same topic.

At one point in time, I think all readers dreamed of seeing the books they read come to life. That would just be great. So, here are the books I once imagined and still wanted to be turned into movies.

1. Anna and the French Kiss (Stephanie Perkins)
I really would love to see Etienne St. Clair and Anna Oliphant on the big screen plus Paris is a great
 setting.

2. Catching Jordan (Miranda Keneally)
I heard some news that someone already bought rights for this one but it's still not sure if that would push through. I hope it does 'coz this would really be great turned into a movie. Woods & Henry's moments are just great. And Jamie Campbell Bower (picture on the right) would be the perfect Henry. He seems funny and adorable. (see picture below) What do you think?
3. If I Stay & Where She Went (Gayle Forman)
There has been news way back that this is going to be made into a movie but I'm not sure what happened though. I hope it still pushes through. Mia and Adam.  Aww!
4. Along for the Ride (Sarah Dessen)
I just love love Auden & Eli's nightly quests.

5. Just Listen (Sarah Dessen)
Annabel and Owen. <3

6. Thirteen Reasons Why (Jay Asher)                             This would probably be emotional and eerie at the same time because of the tapes and Hannah's voice. Just listening to the tapes posted over on youtube gave me the creeps. If you haven't heard the tapes, go to this account or listen to tape 1 here. >>>
7.Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (Rachel Cohn & David Levithan)
This would be a fun fun Christmas season movie.

8. The Summer I Turned Pretty series (Jenny Han)
Summer movie!!!!

9. Before I Fall (Lauren Oliver)
Just like Thirteen Reasons Why this would be an emotional movie and there are lots of things going on in this book.

10. The Grant County Series (Karin Slaughter)
This is the only non-YA book on this list but I just love this series and I would love to see Sara and Jeffrey on screen although I think this would be a better fit as a series.
